Medical & Dental (BDS) Admission Policy 2025–2026

Medical Admission circular in Bangladesh is like that yearly festival everyone dreads but can’t ignore. Parents get nervous, students panic-scroll Facebook groups, and coaching centers suddenly start breathing fire.
And now, the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has dropped its official admission policy for 2025–2026 and there are some changes this time.

In this year, some of changes have come in the Medical & BDS admission policy.  If you thought you’d just coast in with last year’s GPA cutoff surprise! The bar’s been moved. Physics lost 5 marks, General Knowledge gained 5, and GPA requirements? Slightly friendlier but not by much.

What’s Actually Changed This Year?

Alright, here’s the scoop. The BMDC Admission Policy 2025–2026 will apply to all government and private medical and dental colleges in Bangladesh. It’s basically the rulebook for whoever gets to wear that shiny white coat next year.

But this year’s policy isn’t just a copy-paste of last time. No, a few tweaks are shaking things up.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Total GPA requirement lowered from 9.0 → 8.5 for SSC + HSC combined.
  • Physics marks reduced by 5
  • General Knowledge boosted by 5
  • Previous year candidates now lose fewer marks — 3 instead of 6.
  • Re-admission penalties are lighter — 5 marks deduction instead of 6.

So yes, the system got a tiny bit more forgiving. But make no mistake, the competitions still brutal.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply

Every year, hundreds of hopefuls open the circular and immediately get hit by a wall of GPA numbers and confusing conditions. So, let’s untangle it.

If you’re planning to apply for MBBS or BDS this year, here’s what you need to tick off:

Requirement

Details

Citizenship

Must be Bangladeshi (foreigners apply under special quota)

Education Stream

Must be from science stream

Total GPA (SSC + HSC)

Minimum 8.5

Minimum GPA in Biology

3.5

Individual Exam GPA

Can’t be less than 4

Exam Year

HSC in 2024 or 2025; SSC in 2022 or later

Example:
If you passed SSC in 2022 and HSC in 2024, congrats you’re eligible. But if your SSC year says 2021, tough luck. The policy says no entry.

MBBS admission 2025-26 will also start on 12th December 2025. It is a big decision for a student to choose the correct path of career.

Rules and Regulation for Foreign Students

BMDC has clear distinctions for foreign students and non-tribal candidates from hilly or tribal districts.

  1. For foreign students in government medical/dental colleges:
  • Total GPA (SSC + HSC/A-Level) = 8.5
  • GPA in Biology = 3.5
  • No exam GPA under 4.0

2. For foreign students in private colleges:

  • Total GPA (equivalent) = 7.0
  • Biology GPA = 3.5
  • No individual GPA under 3.5

3. For backward or hilly communities:

  • Combined GPA = 8.0
  • Biology GPA = 3.5 minimum

Honestly, that small difference might open doors for some very deserving students — especially from underrepresented regions.

Mark Distribution

Okay, this is the spicy part. The exam format still follows the familiar 100-mark MCQ system. But some clever rebalancing happened behind the scenes.

Old Distribution (2024–25)

  • Physics: 20
  • Chemistry: 25
  • Biology: 30
  • English: 15
  • General Knowledge: 10

New Distribution (2025–26)

General Knowledge

+5

Maybe the BMDC finally realized nobody enjoys calculating electron orbits under exam stress. But is that +5 in GK? That’s where smart prep pays off, especially if you keep up with current affairs.

Don’t forget the -0.25 penalty marks for every wrong answer. You can’t just “guess and pray” your way through anymore.

Selection Process for the Exam

Here’s where things get a little mathematical and a lot confusing for most people.

Your final merit score =
(8 × SSC GPA) + (12 × HSC GPA) + Admission Test Marks

But,

  • If you’re a previous-year candidate, you lose 3 marks.
  • If you’re already admitted to a government medical/dental college last year, you lose 5 marks.

Last year, those numbers were 6 marks and 6 marks. So yeah — the BMDC went soft.

Example:
Suppose you scored SSC GPA 5.0 and HSC GPA 4.5 →
(8×5) + (12×4.5) = 40 + 54 = 94
Now, add your admission test score. If you scored 75/100 → total 169.
If you were a repeater, subtract 3. Final score = 166.

Still competitive, but at least it’s fairer now.

Exam Format & Duration

No essay writing, no lab tests, no viva. Just one MCQ exam that can decide your fate.

Details briefly:

Total Marks

100

Exam Duration

1 hour 15 minutes

Pass Mark

40

Negative Marking

-0.25 per wrong answer

Question Type

MCQ (from HSC syllabus)

If you score less than 40, you’re automatically out. It doesn’t matter if your GPA’s perfect, the written test rules all.

The real bottleneck is still the 100-mark MCQ that separates dreamers from doers.

Final Thoughts

Every year, thousands chase the dream of becoming a doctor. The 2025–26 Medical & Dental Admission Policy feels more balanced this time, fairer for average scorers, slightly friendlier for repeaters, and more inclusive for special communities. But the competition is still Everest-level.

If you’re applying this year, focus on Biology, stay current on GK, and practice MCQs under time pressure. Because at the end of the day, 75 minutes can decide your next 5 years, maybe even your whole career.
